Frequently Asked Questions
Booking your session
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
Sabii Photography is located in Sydney's Hills District but I travel to other areas of Sydney as well as the Central Coast, Nepean, Sutherland, Lower Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and Camden. Please enquire about other areas, there will be a travel fee of $50 for areas more than 50km from the Hills District Sydney.
INVESTMENT?
Choose from three curated collections starting from $350 or curate your own collection with a selection of wall art, albums and other products to showcase your portraits. The Sabii Photography Collection and Product Guide will be emailed to you when booking your session with the option to purchase beautiful printed products including framed art, canvas art and designer albums. Fine art prints start from $80 and Wall Display Collections start from $1,200.
HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK A SESSION?
I suggest you book your desired session date four to six weeks in advance as sessions are booked in advance with certain months booking out fast. I recommend planning ahead to secure the date you want. Spring and Summer (September to February) are the most popular times of the year and the busiest. Autumn and Winter (March to August) are usually not as booked out so a perfect option if you want portraits wearing warmer clothing such as beautiful scarves and knits.
HOW DO I BOOK A SESSION?
You can book a session by filling in the Contact Form on the website under Contact. Choose from our three popular Collections or Curate your Collection. The session fee of $150 is to be paid when booking your session. Once your session is confirmed I will email you the Sabii Photography Collection and Product Guide so you can have a look at the products you can purchase to display your session images in whether it be framed prints, canvas art, albums, wall display collections or digital collections. I will also arrange a date for the pre-session consultation which will be scheduled 2 weeks out from your session date.
About your session
WHERE WILL MY SESSION TAKE PLACE?
As I love outdoor portrait sessions I have a list of great locations no matter what area you live in. Whether you want long grassy fields, lush green forests, beaches or urban areas I will suggest a location that will be perfect for your session. If there is a location that is sentimental to you let me know when booking your session and I can check to make sure there is no restrictions or limitations when using that location as some areas/parks require fees and permits for professional photography. A pre-session questionnaire will be emailed to you to be filled in after you book your session. This is an important piece of information for me to make sure I plan your session to match your needs.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN A PORTRAIT SESSION?
Portrait sessions are always fun and relaxed as I want you to be as natural as you can be. I want you to enjoy every aspect of your session so you will look back at the experience with great memories. I start with posed family setups, then individual shots. I let the child or adult explore the location and follow them around capturing them as they go. I find that even if they are not looking at the camera they will usually have a cheeky smile or be surprised by something they have found in tall grass or on the beach. I always provide suggestions and feedback for shoots so there is collaboration as we move through the session.
WHEN DO YOU SCHEDULE YOUR PORTRAIT SESSIONS?
Most portrait sessions are scheduled for weekends as most of my clients work full time and those are their free days. I always shoot in the last 2 hours of sunlight in the day, the time of day when the light is golden and glowing. I may also schedule younger child sessions during the morning as younger children tend to fare better with sessions in the morning as they are usually closer to sleep at sunset.
When will the session portraits be ready for collection?
HOW SOON AFTER THE SESSION CAN WE SEE OUR IMAGES?
I will upload one sneak peek image on social media a few days after your session. A password-protected online gallery will be ready for you to view your session images within 7 days from the session date. You will be able to select your favourite images in the gallery.
HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO PLACE OUR ORDER?
You will have 4 weeks to place your order. Once you have selected your photos, your order will go into production. The online gallery will be deactivated after you have received all of your order.
HOW DO WE ORDER OUR PORTRAITS, WALL ART OR PRINTED PRODUCTS?
You will be able to order your favourite portraits online or you can choose to send the image numbers to me via email. As soon as payment is made the order will go into production. 50% of your payment is required when placing your order. If you wish to set up a payment plan please discuss this with me. Products will only be released once all payments have been finalised.
WHEN DO WE RECEIVE OUR ORDER?
Your finished wall art, prints and albums will be ready to be collected approximately 4-6 weeks after ordering. All portrait products will be required to be collected from Sabii Photography to ensure there is no damage to your beautiful products. Digital images will be ready within 2 weeks.
HOW LONG DO YOU KEEP OUR SESSION FILES?
Portrait session files are kept for 12 months from your session date. Orders can still be made during this time. After 12 months session files get moved to the permanent archives and a retrieval fee of $100 is required to be able to purchase more portraits after this time. This retrieval fee includes reactivating your online gallery.
Getting ready for your session
WHAT DO I WEAR?
I have a few guidelines for portrait session clothing. This is general advice and if you need more guidance please contact me and I can send you some visual examples. The best way to start thinking about what to wear is to look at your location.
Grassy fields and rural locations – I suggest you wear warmer natural-toned clothing and softer tones.
Coastal locations – You can opt for bright tones or softer tones.
Urban locations – Go for pop and bright colours so that you can be the feature against the urban backdrop.
Check out the portfolio to see what people have worn in each location.
Start with one outfit then base the rest of the participants around that. In most cases, in family sessions, the mum selects an outfit and the colour tones are similar. Avoid using super bright neon colours as they tend to not photograph as well and can cause colour casts on skin. Avoid excessive jewellery and no sunglasses. Choose clothing that is not too restrictive as well as you will be sitting, crouching and moving in the session. Don't forget your feet as well, nice shoes that don't look ratty and polished bare feet can be perfect for beach portraits.
WHAT DO I DO BEFORE THE SESSION?
On the day of the session try to make sure you have a relaxing day. Sessions in the late afternoon, especially in summer are after 5:00 pm so children can get tired if they have a day of activities.
Hair should be clean, brushed and tidy, bring a brush or comb with you in case we need to tidy up between shots.
Faces need to be cleaned with a wet wipe beforehand and have some handy in case there is a need to spot clean clothing.
Do not feed children lollies or sugary drinks before the session as they will end up getting tired after their sugar rush. Pack snacks that can be eaten if they need a break and that will not spill on clothing. A bottle of water is recommended as well.
